Free Think University is pleased to announce another student scholarship, awarded by Foster and Lynn Friess in conjunction with the Left Right, Left Right, Forward March! Initiative (leftrightforward.org).

Mr. and Mrs. Friess have been leaders in the business and philanthropic fields.  They started the Left Right, Left Right, Forward March! movement last year in order to “bring together Americans from disparate political backgrounds to partner on projects that advance the common good, both nationally and in our communities, while restoring civility and cooperation to our discourse.”

This week’s scholarship winner was Reece Avis from the Grove City College. Reece was awarded $1,000 for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Reece is a Junior, studying as a philosophy major.  In his free time he enjoys reading (especially apologetics), going to the gym, and participating in a group started by some friends called “The Meeting of the Minds.” This group of seven friends meets at least once a week for lunch to discuss at least one problem or inefficiency they have observed in the world, and to then together works to construct an invention or solution to fix it. Through this experience, he is working to help develop Free Think U’s student ambassador program, which will involve students as hosts of regular roundtable discussions about the Big Ideas.

After college, Reece is interested in attending the Oxford Center for Christian Apologetics or working for a venture capital firm.

“FreeThinkU is an exciting innovation in social media,” Reece said.  “It has enabled us students to think through issues in the round, getting both sides, and because of that I am developing new ideas and convictions through riveting courses and great conversations.”
