Examples are a powerful way to argue. In this session, Hitchens gives us a specific and horrifying one to test the concept of “goodness.” This thought experiment becomes the laboratory for discussion between himself and Wilson on what constitutes proper human morality.
In the end, the debate seems to hang in part on which view can most consistently be applied in moral situations. Does Christianity provide for the highest moral actions? Or does it lead to oppression, division, and cruelty? Wilson and Hitchens again disagree on these questions.
