Conclusion

For many students, watching debates like this can be frustrating, with both sides seeming at times logical and clear.  But each of us must arrive at his or her own position in regard to these key issues.  We cannot remain spectators for too long.  Each of us makes choices, interacts with beauty, and seeks truth every day.  It is hoped that one benefit of this video debate has been the beauty of humility that both participants have displayed often throughout the experience.  Each combatant has been honest, open to hear the other, firm in their belief, but kind to the other.  Can we do this more in our own lives?

To finish this course experience, which is hopefully only the beginning of much more thought and debate on this subject, each debate member is given a few minutes to give his closing statement.

The door is open for more dialogue, even though Wilson and Hitchens must say their goodbyes.  But it is key to remember what Hitchens said, “It is not enough to admit defeat in the debate; it demands a change of life.”  In this last short clip, both discuss what they thought was the best argument from the lengthy debate.
