The fossil record is where most of these transitional forms would be found if they are there to be found. Life forms are not going to survive “in the open” after millions of years. Therefore only those recorded by fossilization would remain for us to find and use as evidence. The following video gives an overview of some of the declared “missing links” currently considered the strong evidence for these transitional forms.
In particular, a recent find called the “Ida” fossil is currently considered a major transitional fossil and has received a lot of media and press for that reason. Two videos will present that specific fossil to you.
A Summary of this view would include the following premises:
- There are no doubt many more transitional forms to be found in the fossil record, we just need time and money to find them.
- Gould’s theories, which continue to be worked on, may in part explain why fewer fossils are needed to detail the natural selection history of species on earth.
- What we have found so far fits consistently with evolutionary change.
