Who Do You
Say Christ Is?

The Lunatic

“The other guys are selling certainty. Not me. I’m on the corner with doubt.” – Bill Maher

Not a few philosophers and authors over the years have suggested that Jesus was simply crazy.  They cite various indications both from within the Gospels and the teachings of his followers to show that he was simply deluded.  Claiming to be God when you are just a man is something many mentally unstable folks have done down through history.  It is not that we misunderstand him, he misunderstood himself.

One man who has been rather open and public about this view, and usually approaches the subject in the mode of standup comedy is entertainer Bill Maher.  In the following segment from a comedy special of his to promote his 2008 film, “Religulous” he sets forth one version of the “Jesus is a lunatic” view.
