Is Our Idea of Success
Making Us Poor?

Defining Success

If wealth is only one definition of success and, as just demonstrated, can have a negative influence, should we be looking for ways to radically define the concept of success? Some would argue that it is this monetary definition of success that is actually making us “poor.” In his talk at Q Nashville in 2014, economist Brian Fikkert argues that it is our flawed understanding of success that makes us sick, tired, and mentally ill. The solution, he says, is to better understand what God says human flourishing looks like. It starts from understanding what it means to be made in the image of God.
