When Does Helping
Actually Hurt?

Introduction

Can helping actually be harmful sometimes? Are Christian missions strategies adding to the problems rather than alleviating them? In their book When Helping Hurts, Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert argue that while the Church may have good intentions, good intentions are not enough. If we misdiagnose the problems, we can actually do more harm than good. Watch the following interview with the two authors, in which they give an overview of the book’s main points and explain their purpose in writing the book.

LifeChurch.tv released a series of videos based on the book When Helping Hurts. This series is called “Helping Without Hurting,” and it is designed to guide you in understanding the basic ideas from When Helping Hurts, while also challenging you to discover what God may be calling you to do. As you work through the rest of this course, make notes about what specifically resonates with you, and consider how God might be leading you.
