James 1:27 says, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” This verse and its implications are what prompted Tom Davis to write Red Letters: Living a Faith That Bleeds—to encourage Christ followers to reach out to the widows and the orphans with the love of Jesus. Davis explains that through the hands and voices of Christians, the character and love of Jesus can be made evident to a lost and dying world.
Watch this brief introductory video to Red Letters before we further examine Davis’s burden and his call to all Christians.
