According to several different religious traditions, as recorded in the Bible and the Qur’an, King Solomon was the King of Israel and the son of David. According to the Jewish Talmud, Solomon is one of the 48 Prophets. In the Qur’an, he is considered a major prophet.
The Hebrew Bible credits Solomon as the builder of the first temple in Jerusalem and portrays him as abounding in wisdom, wealth, and power. However, the Bible also describes Solomon as a king whose sin, including idolatry and turning away from God, led to the destruction of the kingdom at the hands of his own son, Rehoboam. Solomon is the subject of many other later references and legends.
