Let’s start at the movies, specifically with Gordon Gecko’s speech from the blockbuster “Wall Street.”

Some would argue this scene typifies the current problems with corporate greed and how greed adversely affects the working man, often leaving him out in the cold.  Others, however, would counter that it is only by the gain of corporate growth and capital that the working man is given an opportunity to prosper at all.  This debate continues to grow quickly in our culture.  Politicians are fast to take sides. Where are you with this discussion?  Does a capitalist economy make the plight of the poor worse?  Two sides are presented in this course: the group that says, “yes, capitalism harms the poor by widening the wealth gap, making the poor poorer and the rich richer,” and the group that says, “no, capitalism empowers the poor, as it enables the economy to grow holistically.”  Compare the arguments, and then you can decide what you think.  Most importantly, be a thinker who listens to both sides before freely choosing which you support.
